NHS England and the UK Health Security Agency have created a toolkit of resources to raise awareness of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) prevention, symptom recognition and treatment which includes advice on how and when to seek help.
IPC Champions are a local resource within Adult Social Care. They have received additional training to equip them with the knowledge and skills to take ownership of, and be responsible for, the completion of annual environmental and staff compliance audits in their care setting, therefore ensuring the setting is compliant with latest standards and best Infection, Prevention and Control practice. Audit is vital to identify areas of non-compliance or improvement and the role includes formulating actions for rectification.
The role will also include be responsible in ensuring all employees are up to date with IPC training, providing mandatory and induction training to colleagues and new employees.
West Sussex County Council (WSCC) Public Health Department are pleased to be able to offer a series of online IPC Champion Training “train the trainer” courses for all IPC Leads and care home staff at care home settings.
This IPC Training is a competency-based training programme, aimed to support the IPC leads/champions in managing infections by translating their knowledge effectively to practise at their care setting.
This is a two-hour, online webinar and attendees must have access to a computer, the internet, a web camera with microphone and ability to attend via MS Teams to be able to participate. The training will be offered free of charge and be hosted by an expert in infection prevention and control. All training resources and competency assessment tools will be provided for the session and there will be an opportunity to ask your nominated trainer questions.

West Sussex County Council (WSCC) Public Health Department are pleased to offer a series face to face IPC management training for registered manager and/or deputy managers at care home settings.
The day is an in-person event that covers the principles of infection prevention and control with a particular emphasis on the challenges faced by those in management positions. Delegates will be an influencer within their organisation to take back and implement change where necessary and support staff in consistently meeting standards. The course will enable an understanding of common healthcare organisms, their route of transmission and how to prevent spread within the care home setting. The day will consist of presentations and interactive exercises to ensure delegates can identify the needs of their care home, train and support colleagues and be a confident leader in preventing infection.

West Sussex County Council (WSCC) Public Health Department is commissioning a series of Specialist Infection Prevention and Control Audit support to care homes within West Sussex. We are aiming to offer this practical IPC audit opportunity to around 50 West Sussex Care homes in 2023-2024. The audits support homes in the delivery of infection prevention and control standards, to reduce avoidable infections and improve outcomes.
The care homes to be offered the IPC audit will be based on needs which will be provide through WSCC Public Health/ WSCC Social Care and Contract Managers.
The audit supports care home staff with their knowledge and implementation of:
Immediate verbal feedback should be given at the time of the audit of any concerns observed; and a written report and action plan will be provided. A copy of the audit report should be returned to the care home and Public Health, who will forward to the relevant WSCC Contracts Manager to support their quality monitoring process.
