NHS Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes (MOCH) pharmacy teams
In partnership with GP practices, these teams support care homes with medication queries. If you would like to use the services please contact your local MOCH team and they will respond within two working days.

Community nursing support
Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust provides community nursing support to the county's care homes, as follows.
Crawley, Horsham and Mid-Sussex areas
The Care Homes Support Team provides training and bespoke support for care homes. The team can be contacted via email at SC-TR.CareHomes-North@nhs.net or by phone on 01293 301009.
Coastal West Sussex areas
Local care homes are supported by the Admission Avoidance Matrons (AAMs). They primarily work closely with care homes and care homes with nursing to support patients with deteriorating health who can’t be managed safely within the available resources of the home. The AAMs can be contacted by phone via OneCall on 01903 254789.

The government has produced guidance for adult social care employers to support staff, as well as guidance for individuals to manage their personal mental health and wellbeing.
Support for managers
There is a new Skills for Care advice line to provide managers with support and answers to COVID-19 related questions.
The Skills for Care Facebook group is now open to all registered and front-line managers. This can support you to stay connected with other managers, share advice, experiences and guidance.
A local WhatsApp group for managers has also been set up by Karen Stevens (Skills for Care Locality Manager - London and South East) to enable managers to share information, ideas and resources with each other. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
- Sussex Mental Healthline (0300 5000 101) service is available to carers and healthcare professionals. It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Our NHS People has launched an Adult Social Care Bereavement and Trauma line, operated by Hospice UK. You can speak to a specialist counsellor at 0300 303 4434 between 8am and 8pm.
Proud to Care West Sussex offers support and guidance to care providers looking to recruit new staff in West Sussex. The Proud to Care website features a dedicated Hub where employers can advertise job vacancies free of charge and access useful resources on recruiting and retaining staff.

Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)
The Department of Health and Social Care has issued MCA and DoLS COVID-19 guidance. This reflects changes required during the pandemic and applies to those caring for adults who lack the mental capacity to consent to their care and treatment.
There is a new, shorter application form which can be used for urgent DoLS authorisations – Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards form 1B (Covid-19)
